Sample Stash Sunday: A Collection of Empties

I’ve made a few empties posts here and there, but never consistently because I keep itching to throw everything away. However, I’ve recently made a conscious effort to use up my samples—you know, a sample a day keeps the impending destiny of becoming a hoarder away—and sometimes, empties posts are actually useful! The empties I have today are just samples. Samples are exciting, but they are also susceptible to forgetfulness and a future as waste. So, these are what I’ve used up since about late October. Sephora Birthday Haul

In my last Makeup No Buy post, I mentioned getting a few things for my birthday. The box arrived yesterday, on Saturday, and I’m fairly excited. 🙂 I only got two sets, but there was a fair amount of samples. First up is the Urban Decay Ocho Loco 2, which won out over the Vice 2 palette and the Shattered Face Case, just because a) I have too many eyeshadows, and b) I’ve never tried Urban Decay eyeliners before. I know, right? Anyway, I’ve only play-tested them out, but I’m pretty happy about all of the colors, and the quality. 🙂 Next, I got a Best of BECCA Set, which includes a Beach Tint (Grapefruit), Eye Tint (Baroque), and travel-sized Shimmering Skin Perfector (Opal), Resurfacing Primer, and The Ultimate Mascara (Black). I can’t wait to try them out, although Grapefruit is quite similar to Guava, which I already have, and Baroque is super sheer. I got a few samples, too. Squee! There’s the Benefit Birthday Set, which has sample sizes of Watt’s Up! and the …

Stash Shopping No. 4b

Here’s a semi-new stash. I decided to keep the eye products in rotation, because I’d like to play with them some more. I just added some more transitional lipsticks into the mix, in preparation for Fall. Which we don’t really have here, but still. To see more details on last week’s stash, click here. Here’s a photo of it: Here are the lipsticks I added for use this week. Seems like a lot, but let’s see which ones I’ll actually use: Swatched from L-R: MAC Impassioned, Flower Beauty in Ginger Lily, YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in Rose in Tension, Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in RD305, Guerlain Rouge G L’Extrait in Gourmandise I picked dark brights and deeper neutrals, if that makes sense. What’s on your to-use list this week?

Sayonara, Lipstick Week: My Lipstick Collection

I saved the “best” for last. Here’s my embarrassing lipstick collection. Do I need all of it? Probably not. I think I have a nice, round collection, however, and I don’t own too many dupes. I know this because I tried to make a dupe post for Lipstick Week and failed. Ahem. I keep most of my lipsticks inside a small MUJI bag that I’ve fitted with the plastic containers. I put this bag inside a drawer because I like to keep the top of my desk relatively clean. Honestly, this isn’t the most ideal situation, but it works. Other lip products like glosses and stuff are in a clear jar. Others like balms, lip butters, lip tars, etc. are in a small drawer on my desk. OK, so let’s talk about the lipstick. Here’s pretty much everything I have: I know it looks like a lot, but I really try and clean out this collection and see if I haven’t used a lipstick in x number of months. I also try to keep the …

Scents & Sensibility

AKA, I suck at titles, but this is what I picked and I’m sticking to it. Anyway, this is a post on my small “collection” of scents. I don’t really collect scents. I just kind of find one that I really like then stick to that for a long time. I think it’s because I don’t really look for anything new very often. Moschino’s Cheap & Chic I Love Love This is my first “signature scent,” which is just another way of saying that this was the only sort of cologne or perfume I owned at the time. I love this smell, but that is just a fortunate stroke of luck, as I really, truly bought this for the packaging. I saw the packaging in a magazine ad and my parents bought it for me when we were on vacation in New York. That was when I knew that ads worked on gullible people like myself. Also, I was in high school, so give me a break. I Love Love has very fresh and citrus-y …

This or That: YSL Glossy Stain vs. L’Oreal Shine Caresse

Introducing This or That, a new series in which I make beauty products contend with each other, after which I will declare a winner. They’re not necessarily going to be drugstore vs. high end, but this first one is. I’m obviously not the first one to bring up the comparisons between both products, but I thought I’d experiment and compare on my own as well. Today, I’ll be comparing the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain and the L’Oreal Shine Caresse. I have exactly one shade of each (they are fairly different shades), so it won’t be a “dupe” comparison. I’ll be reviewing the formulation, the smell, et al. So, let’s get started. YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain in N° 24 (Fuschia Intemporel) “A revolutionary new lip product! Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wear of a stain for a truly innovative lip product. A lightweight texture that immediately melts onto lips. Rouge Pur Couture Vernis …

YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in N° 17 Rose in Tension

I’ve been seeing this strangely attractive ornate tube all around the beauty beauty blogosphere, so I decided to go get myself one of the shades for myself. Taylor of My Lucite Dreams loves these, and I trust her taste in cosmetics so I took the plunge. I got N° 17, Rose in Tension, which is a pretty old rose, mauve-y color. At least from what I could tell in press photos and in the bullet. It’s a tad warmer on the lips than I anticipated. Here’s a heavy swatch for you, though it’s pretty pigmented, even with just one layer. Don’t mind my eye makeup! I don’t know where I was going with this, but let’s pretend that it was a good place. I’ll start with what I didn’t like about the product. First of all, it smells like artificial mangoes. Being that I like the smell of real mangoes and also that we have the best mangoes here in the Philippines, I am not a fan of the scent. Actually, that’s my main qualm …
