5 Things Friday: Japanese Drugstore Finds

Today’s 5 Things Friday (which I hope I will follow through on forever and ever) features some finds from a handful of Japanese drugstores on my last trip to Tokyo/Osaka. If you have never shopped around a Japanese drugstore, you have never known real joy. (Just kidding.) I think you can tell that I really held back this time around. These are actually pretty practical finds, except for the lipstick… so I’m pretty proud of myself. Heh. I actually have six things here, but let me explain. I picked up the MUJI Nail Polish Remover, which are basically just packets of sheets doused in nail polish remover. My polish was driving me nuts, so I was happy I saw these at a Family Mart! I think they might be acetone-free; the formula was definitely more oily than alcohol-y. Next up is the Suncut Water in UV Protect Essence, which is just facial sunscreen. They have an abundance of these. I just picked one up with a high SPF. I got a 2 for 1 deal …

Recent Obsessions: SPF in Lip Products

When I was traveling around, I noticed that my lips would get more sore and chapped than they usually were. I attributed it to the cold, but also to sun exposure. I also saw quite a bit of lip products all around Japan that boasted of SPF. I didn’t want sun damage and the lips are a part of our body that we often forget to protect, which is why I picked up a few here and there. Except for the Dior Addict Lip Glow, I bought everything in the photo on that trip. I have two lip products by Ettusais, the Lip Essence N Stick (SPF 10) and the Lip Essence with hypergloss oil (SPF 18 PA++). From MUJI, I have the Medicated Lip Cream (SPF 12) and a tinted balm of sorts (SPF 13 PA++). I’ve been making it a habit to wear these under my lip products, which makes me feel less paranoid about their exposure to the sun. They’re all easy to reapply on-the-go, too. My Spring/Summer Makeup Base

Most days, I like to keep it light already, but as the hotter weather rolls around, cutting down products becomes serious business. Before I broiled in the heat of the sun, I used to be able to just go out in concealer and a finishing powder, but the sun’s rays have a way of bringing out SPF-induced paranoia. My priority is great sun protection for the face. I picked this up in Japan—the Suncut Water in UV Protect Essence—but it’s essentially a water-based face sunscreen with SPF 50+ PA++++. It dries down really well, which is great because I hate feeling gunky in the summer heat. That’s my spring skin care tip, too—don’t forget the sunscreen! I go in with my concealer (NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger), which I set with a powder (Le Métier de Beauté Eye Brightening and Setting Powder in Refresh). The problem with the sunscreen is that it leaves the skin a little greasy-looking. That’s when I go in with a light layer of mineral foundation (Ellana Minerals Loose Foundation …

Sample Stash Sunday: Addiction by Ayako Tinted Skin Protector

For this week’s edition of Sample Stash Sunday, I have a little packet of Addiction’s Tinted Skin Protector in Tint No. 3. If you’ve just tuned in to this blog, Sample Stash Sunday is a sort of quick, first impressions type of review. It’s also a way for me to get through the numerous samples I’ve acquired, so win-win! The Tinted Skin Protector is basically a foundation that has a) great suns protection, and b) is a primer as well. It’s meant to protect the skin from drying and from UV rays, while also providing even coverage, even over pores. It’s also designed to be light, feel fresh, and wear long. It has: moisturizing ingredients “centifolia rose flower extract” combination. emollient ingredient “Rose hip oil” combination. no fragrance SPF 50/PA+++ So, this little packet right here contains 0.9ml worth of product. It doesn’t seem like a lot, and it didn’t feel like a lot. So, being a dumbass, I assumed it was tinted moisturizer (because I didn’t research before trying) good for one use and …
