Empties No. 1

Hello everyone! This is my first empties post, and it’s quite sizeable. It’s mostly skin care and bath stuff, though, so if you are looking for makeup empties, feel free to skip on this! — Maybelline The Falsies Mascara: It was time to throw it out as I stretched it to 6 months, like a Josie Gross-y. I really liked this mascara, but I won’t be repurchasing as it’s not cruelty-free. — Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer: Throwing it out because it has become too tacky for me to work with. I won’t be repurchasing as I prefer other eye primers.

LUSH Ultrabland Facial Cleanser

If you recall my Going Cruelty-Free post on facial cleansers, I had mentioned I needed to find a good makeup remover replacement since the one I’d been using wasn’t and I was nearly out of it (i.e. Laneige Eye & Lip Waterproof Remover, which is pretty much amazing). I want to thank everyone who left a suggestion. Many of them, I wanted to try but can’t get a hold of here. One of the ones I could get was LUSH’s Ultrabland. Ultrabland is essentially a facial cleanser, though one that is vastly different from the first one I tried, Aqua Marina. Instead of coming from a spongy loaf, like some of their cleansers, Ultrablend is a creamy product that has a nondescript (though a little unpleasant) smell. You take a bit of it and slather it all over your face. I rub away heavier makeup like mascara with the gunk still on my face. Then, instead of washing it off, you take a damp flannel cloth or cotton pad and then wipe the cream—and all …

LUSH Cream Eyeshadow in Sophisticated

A while back, LUSH released a color cosmetics line and I’ve always wanted to try something from there out but didn’t really get a chance to. Until recently, that is! I finally took the plunge and got a cream eyeshadow. I figured that I might as well try some CF cream shadows that I like before saying goodbye to the ones I love and have. Anyway, I picked out Sophisticated, a shimmering taupe cream color. I tried out a couple, but I couldn’t take my mind off of this. It’s a beautiful taupe shadow that I felt would go with most of the colors that I owned. I really fell in love with it. This is an opaque swatch, and below is a blended out swatch: Here, it’s Sophisticated with shu uemura’s ME medium brown 885 in the outer corner and crease: These don’t crease, by the way. The line on my eyelid is just my eyelid. 🙂 I can’t put my finger on if it’s warm or cool, to be honest. I feel like …

Cleaning Up My Act: Cruelty-Free Facial Cleansers

I’ve been slowly eliminating non Cruelty-Free products from my daily routine. I started by targeting my makeup, and I think I’ve been doing pretty well, though I’ve had a few slip-ups since making my pledge (I bought Maybelline Color Whispers). I realized that animal testing doesn’t stop at makeup. Facial cleansers are also a part of that. When Wiji pointed out that newer packaging of St. Ives neglected to include “Not Tested on Animals” as it always had, I was compelled to check my skin care, too. Apparently, they were acquired by Unilever, which is a company that tests on animals. I’m currently working through a large bottle of shu uemura’s cleansing oil, which is the best makeup remover I’ve tried, by far. I’m still looking for cruelty-free alternatives, but we have that little bit left from the bottle, as well as a few samples, to tide us over while we look for other makeup removers. Here are cruelty-free facial cleansers I’ve tried so far. Korres Milk Proteins Cleansing & Make-Up Remover Wipes I use …
