New Loves: 2016

Hey everyone, I’m alive. I just wanted to take a bit of time to write about some (admittedly kind of boring, but still amazing) things that I’ve been enjoying during the year so far. To be honest, I haven’t been that adventurous with makeup in a while. I’ve been working part-time and I usually have to throw on a quick lewk before dashing out the door. In any case, what I’ve got here are just essentials, really, to my routine lately. I tried to pick the items I haven’t really spoken about at length here before. Just a disclaimer: most of this post is made up of items that are gifted by friends and family or sent by PR teams, as that’s the only time I’ve been able to really test new stuff out. I’ve cut down on my spending (on makeup, at least) a lot as I’m saving up for trips later on in the year. Sulfate-Free Shampoo

I know it’s not the most exciting topic, but I think I’ve spoken about scalp problems before, and to be honest, the only thing that really helped me get rid of them were sulfate-free shampoos. I used to not really pay much attention to hair products, as long as I liked how they smelled, but when I started getting really itchy build-up with worrisome patches of dry, flaky skin, I started to take notice. My first step was to ditch conditioner, just to eliminate the number of products (and therefore, lessen the build-up) I used in my hair. My hair suffered a little, but my main concern was really to get rid of my scalp issues. My next step was to go more natural and pay attention to ingredients. I chose to eliminate SLS or sodium lauryl sulfate, as it’s a common ingredient that has been known to cause some problems for a lot of people. As it turns out, seeking out sulfate-free shampoos was the right step for me. Although I still have occasional …

Unboxing: BDJ Box August 2014*

Quick unboxing post of the BDJ Box for August 2014.* The theme for this month’s box is Luscious Locks, with 4 of the 7 items geared towards hair care. Spoiler Alert: I’m not too excited about this box, but that’s probably because I’m not very into hair products and also I just kinda cut my hair short so my hair care has been pretty low-key (lyesmith). I’ll let the contents speak for themselves! Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate, 30ml (Php 3500) My sample size is 5ml. This is an essence to be applied after cleansing and toning in the morning and at night. It promises to make the skin supple and glow with health with just 1 week of daily use. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Shine in Foxy Lady, 4g (Php 350) I’ve never tried this range before, even though it’s pretty popular. I got a pretty sheer brown shade that’s quite similar to one of my favorite shades, NARS’ Vendanges. I like the formula of this, but it does fade away with a slight …

Empties No. 1

Hello everyone! This is my first empties post, and it’s quite sizeable. It’s mostly skin care and bath stuff, though, so if you are looking for makeup empties, feel free to skip on this! — Maybelline The Falsies Mascara: It was time to throw it out as I stretched it to 6 months, like a Josie Gross-y. I really liked this mascara, but I won’t be repurchasing as it’s not cruelty-free. — Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer: Throwing it out because it has become too tacky for me to work with. I won’t be repurchasing as I prefer other eye primers.

Quickie: Snoe Beauty Hair Heroes Super Fresh Texturizing Beach Waves

I am a sucker for beachy, wavy hair worthy of a spot on Blue Crush. (Do you like my dated reference?) The problem is that I have pin straight, very thick hair that gives a whole new meaning to “pony tail.” Alas, I didn’t inherit my mom’s naturally wavy hair, and nothing ever really worked out for me and my hair. I remember a photoshoot for a magazine where I got my hairz did, and while waiting for everyone else, my curls unraveled so the hair stylist just gathered my messy waves into a side ponytail. So, the Snoe Beauty Hair Heroes Texturizing Beach Waves (Php 299) was something I was eager to try. Product Description: ” Summer hair all year round! Embrace imperfection! Tousled , messy sexy beach hair is this seasons latest hair trend! 🙂 Hair Heroes Super Fresh Sage Tea Tree & Peppermint Texturizing Beach Waves Sea salt. Moringa. Softly separates for shiny, sexy, mussed waves. Heat Safe.” I should have known better, because it did not work for me at all. …

Sample Stash Sunday: Nounou Shampoo & Conditioner by Davines*

I received these from my BDJ Box Elite last week. You can read about that here. For this edition of Sample Stash Sunday, I actually talk about hair! I’m the laziest freaking person when it comes to hair, so I don’t appreciate it when I have to do more than I think I have to. When I say lazy, I do mean “I don’t brush my hair” levels of lazy. The last time I used a brush was so long ago, I’ve regarded it as a distant memory. I’ve found the best shampoo (L’Oreal EverStrong) and conditioner (Organix Macadamia Oil) for my ponytail-thick hair, so I don’t like tempting the balance by trying out new things. However, this was the kind of product range that tempted me to try it. This also just goes to show you that I never learn. This variant is for colored hair, so I was assuming that it would be more moisturizing than usual, just because treated hair usually needs more TLC because of how dry it gets. First up …
