Unboxing: BDJ Box x Covergirl for December 2014*

For December, BDJ Box partnered up with Covergirl, delivering five products to take your look from day to night. Here’s what’s inside the December 2014 BDJ Box*: TruBlend Liquid Makeup* (Php 645) TruBlend is a full-coverage foundation that comes in a whopping 21 shades. I got a shade that seems too light for me, but it blends in well. TruBlend Pressed Powder* (Php 425) This pressed powder is a lightweight, silky-smooth powder with shine-control. It doesn’t clog up the pores and is designed to work with the TruBlend Liquid Makeup. I got the shade “translucent light,” which I thought would be fine, but pressing it in with the sponge gave me quite a heavy coverage that was too light for my skin tone. Advertisements

Lit Up: Le Métier de Beauté Kaleidoscope Eye Kit (Northern Lights)

Photo by Rolf Hicker One of the things I would love to cross off of my bucket list is to see the Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights. It’s a beautiful phenomenon that occurs naturally when charged particles collide in the atmosphere. I’m not so familiar or well-versed with the science behind it, but I think you can see how beautifully the Auroras light up the sky. In Norse mythology, it is believed that the lights are caused by the Valkyrior’s armor. These were also believed to be caused by glaciers storing so much energy, they turn fluorescent. Le Métier de Beauté has culled inspiration from this natural wonder and made it into an eye kit. If you’re not familiar with Kaleidoscope Eye Kits, they are 4-tiered shadows with colors that are meant to be layered one on top of the other, from the top shadow to the bottom. This method is called the couche de couleur and it is meant to bring about the ultimate contrast to the wearer’s eye. Northern Lights brings together …

EOTD: Something Out of Nothing

Here is today’s EOTD featuring the Avon True Color Quad in Sandy Corals (reviewed here) and my new favorite weapon, Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus 12! I have practically no relationship with mascara, because I never understood how to use it. Every time I tried one on, my lashes would look the same and I’d end up with black brush imprints on my lid or under eye area. I never knew I wanted lusher lashes until now! Luckily, my mom had an extra bottle because of a sale purchase a few months ago. So now, I have my own. 🙂 It’s got a two-sided applicator, one side a comb and the other a coil. I haven’t used it all that much to master application, though. There’s a slight blue-grey tinge to it that I don’t mind and actually enjoy quite a bit. It’s also a fibre-based formula, which has fibres that stick to your lashes, helping to elongate them. At first, I thought they were hairs from my mom’s lashes! Here’s my whole FOTD, …

Guerlain Turandot Eyeshadow Palette

Turandot is a 4-shadow palette (Écrin 4 Coueleurs Eyeshadow) from Guerlain’s 2012 Holiday Collection, Liu. Named after the Asian heroine Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot, as well as the classic Guerlain scent, Liu explores and visualizes the themes of passion and femininity, tied off with a heavy dose of Orientalism. Because I might as well be a grubby little mole hermit, I went on to Nordstrom and ordered a palette for myself. It’s easily the most I’ve spent on a quad, alas, it was too pretty to pass up. Also, I didn’t know if this would hit Manila shores. The SA I talked to when I went to get my météorites said that it would be a while before it was available here. Thankfully, the shades are easily worn, and I do intend to wear the frak out of this palette. (When I checked Nordstrom for a specific link, I couldn’t find it anymore, so I guess I made the right call. No? Oh, okay.) Turandot features a light yellow-orangey gold (good for a base, highlighting and …

Avon Haul

Quite recently, I caught my mom leafing through an Avon catalog, and when I saw how cheap some of the makeup was, I jumped at the chance! I’d been buying a lot of pretty higher-end products, so the price drop was pretty refreshing and the products looked promising on paper. They didn’t have stocks of some items that I wanted, but these were the ones I got. True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Sandy Colors This is just Php 399, but I got it even cheaper because it was on one of those Avon sales. Quad quality is decent, though they have less-than-stellar color payoff, especially when applied to lids. Overall, it doesn’t offer much contrast, but I’m happy to report that they all work together! So, it’s a great quad to carry for when you’re traveling or out and about. I don’t see it working for a night look, but I have to play around with it some more. It comes with a decent mirror and a double-ended sponge applicator. AGH. THIS IS MY “JUST …
