Sample Stash Sunday: Femme Fatale Sampler Pack

One of my resolutions this year (that I seem to be following to a ‘T’…) is to try and discover more indie and local cosmetics companies. They are usually cruelty-free (sometimes even vegan!) which ties in to my whole transition to CF cosmetics. One of the more prominent brands I’ve been seeing around is Femme Fatale. I think this operation might be bigger than most indie companies, but I still wanted to try them since they seem to be quite popular in the indie cosmetics realm. Luckily, they had a 10-Sampler Pack, which I snatched up immediately. My order came a few weeks later in a simple letter envelope from Australia. I got my 10 samples (8 eyeshadows, 2 blushes) and a free eyeshadow sample. Advertisements

Sample Stash Sunday: Sigma Eyeshadow Sampler

I got this sampler card of eyeshadows when I ordered part of my sister’s Christmas gift from Sigma. “What do you mean eyeshadow card?” Well, I mean this: !!! Sigma sent ten shades in the sampler. Basically, a plastic cover with adhesive acts like a lid, and they pack on a fair amount of eyeshadows in each “pan.” It’s pretty generous. I can get at least three uses out of each shade, I think. These shadows seem to be both available in palettes and singles. Top, L-R: Notre Dame, Grasp, Act, Allure, Versailles Bottom, L-R: Élysées, Hitch, Eiffel, Reveal, Elope Here are a few looks using the shadows. The first one, I just used Reveal on the outer half, Elope on the inner half, and Eiffel smudged on the outer corner. Because they were the outer colors of the 2nd half. On this look, I used the colors Notre Dame, Grasp, and Versailles over MAC Painterly Paint Pot: I was met with insane fallout. From my experience with this little booklet, I have to say …

Sample Stash Sunday: Burberry Beauty Sheer Luminous Fluid Foundation in Trench No. 4

Here’s an exciting thing I have come across, in my sample exploits—the Burberry Beauty Sheer Luminous Fluid Foundation. I have it in Trench No. 4, which is surprisingly a good match for me. It seems like it anyway; I was surprised since I just got this as a Sephora sample. Product Description: “Formula: A sheer and light cream fluid. A gelled structure for optimum light diffusion. Benefits: A subtle finish and natural glow that illuminate the skin. The skin feels beautifully bare, supple and comfortable. Protection: Hydrating formula. Contains UV filters to protect from damaging environmental exposure.” Right off the bat—I love this foundation. I applied it below over a primer (Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer) and topped it off with a finishing powder (Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light), but this foundation is a) weightless, b) easy to apply and blend with fingers, and c) provides decent coverage for a sheer foundation. I was surprised at how hard it was to spread out, though, given that it’s a sheer and “fluid” foundation. The formula, …

Sample Stash Sunday: HeyNature Black Diamond Moist Tightening BB Cream

Hello, Sample Stash is back! I hope I can keep this up and use up all my samples. I’m aiming for twice a month, at least, so wish me luck! 🙂 Anyway, today, I have a Korean BB Cream called the Hey Nature Black Diamond Moist Tightening BB Cream. I got this in a Glamour Box many months ago. I’m a little averse to trying sachets of samples, but I didn’t want this to go to waste so I sucked it up and put it on my face. It swatches pretty nicely and doesn’t look too white for me. Most BB creams tend to lean towards a super-cool pinky color, which kind of leaves a grey cast on people who aren’t as pale as Koreans to begin with. I don’t really like BB creams because I know I am not “pinky-white” and I do not really aspire to be. However, BB creams attained popularity because of their supposed skin care benefits that lend to a complexion as glowing and beautiful as a Korean pop star’s. …

Sample Stash Sunday: Decanting my Shiro Samples

If you’ve purchased from Shiro Cosmetics before, you’d know that they send candy and sometimes, sample baggies out with your order. I’ve had these for a while, but have never gotten around to transferring them into little pots until recently. I thought it would be a messy affair, but it was quite easy and fuss-free. I’d write up a tutorial, but you just literally pour out the contents into a small container (like this mini pot or an old contact lens case) and that’s that. For easier cleanup, do this with a paper towel over your desk. Shiro also seals each baggie with a circular sticker of the eyeshadow name, with ingredients and an indication of whether or not the shade is lip-safe. A+! I don’t have a lot of containers, so I’ve only decanted three eyeshadows so far. From L-R, we have Everything is Bears, which was a Color of the Month, Victory Road, and Badger. I bought all the shades except Victory Road. Everything is Bears is a “Rich, dark brown packed with …

Sample Stash Sunday: Le Métier de Beauté GWP

When I asked Sarie to get me some items from LMdB while she was on her trip to the States (2 Lip Cremes, 1 Lipstick), she was able to get a GWP for me! Woohoo! The Gift With Purchase includes an eyeshadow duo called Brown as a Berry and an itty bitty sample size of the Anamorphic Lash Mascara. Both came in a cute little drawstring pouch. This is a late review, but I was waiting to finish up a couple of mascaras before I opened this one up. Brown as a Berry is comprised of two light shades: a rosy pink with a golden sheen to it, and a mushroom brown with a similar sheen. Texturally, the shadows are a bit drier than the Le Métier de Beauté shadows I’ve owned and used previously, the main offender being the brown shade. Still, with a bit of coaxing, both are rather pretty mid-tone shades, great to use all over the lid. These are a little light on my skintone, but they are gorgeous in person, …

Sample Stash Sunday: too cool for school After School BB Foundation Lunchbox*

I got a sample of the too cool for school After School BB Foundation Lunchbox in 1 Matte in the July BDJ Box, and that’s awesome because I’ve been wanting to try it since I began exploring the brand. This skin match is just asking for trouble! Look how white it is against my skin tone. Still, I wanted to see if I could use it. Since I wanted to see just how drastic the difference in, here I am without makeup, aside from this on one side of my face: Surprise! It’s not so bad. 🙂 In fact, I think it blends in quite nicely with my skin and evens out my skin tone. My eyebags are hopeless, so I’m not even going to go there. Here I am with all of it blended out + the rest of my makeup: This was the look for my last Made-Up History post. I think this is a bit too pale for me, but it’s honestly nothing that a bit of bronzer can’t fix. I’ve got …
