Summer Skin

We’ve been hitting unreal high temps here in Manila, and most days, I just like forgoing makeup. However, I recently wore my Ellis Faas Skin Veil* after going off of it for a while, and I remembered just how beautiful it makes my skin look like, so I thought I’d do a post on my favorite base combinations have been as of late.

Barely There

This mostly consists of some type of sunscreen, a concealer, and a finishing or setting powder. Lately, I’ve been using the Kosé one I’ve been trying to get rid of, but I’ve recently chucked it as the last time I used it, there was a very strong alcohol smell–something I really don’t want around my face. Right now, I’m testing out the Sunday Riley Cashmere SPF 30+ Advanced Sun Defense* for a longer, more consistent period of time.

My concealers will usually be the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, as I’ve been trying to use it up, or my favorite, the Ellis Faas Concealer*. As for the powder, I almost always reach for the Le Métier de Beauté Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Pressed Powder in Shade 2.

For this version, I’ve just tossed in the Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint for all over the face, right before concealer and powder. I go for this combination when I can be bothered with more than concealer, and if I’ve got a bit of redness I want to shoo away.

I never go full coverage, but there are times when a skin tint just isn’t enough to make you feel great. Sometimes I go with sunscreen; sometimes I ditch it. The products I use in this combination already have built-in SPF. I do grab for my Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, as foundations with more coverage tend to allow more room for error. I then apply the Ellis Faas Skin Veil* and pair it up with a concealer, and finish with a powder. If it’s too hot out, I wouldn’t even bother but I just can’t resist how good my skin looks with this foundation. This is the heaviest I’ll go on days like today. READ: Super fucking hot. I wouldn’t dream of reaching for my heavier-feeling foundations, at least not for the next couple of months.

What’s your sunny-day face arsenal? Would you even bother with foundation?

  1. It is mad hot in Singapore too. Just unbearable in the afternoon especially. I need an SPF of at least 50 and definitely no foundation. Foundation literally melts on my face in such a weather!! X

    • Same, I only use it when I go out at night or if I know I’ll be in an airconditioned place 🙂

  2. I just use one BB cream because my face is so pale right now and top it off with sheer powders like Ellana’s, BYS’ HD Powder or Heroine Make’s Mineral BB Loose. I think the fine particles, as compared to pressed powders, are able to sop up more oil and sweat!

    • I’ve been using the LMdB loose powder, too, but I find that I’m more prone to overapplying loose powders!

i wish i could apply even a tiniest amount of any product in summer’s of pakistan 😦 it gets upto 40 degree centigrade 😦

    • Same here! Average is high 30s + the humidity is hellacious. I just try not to mind it so much and I blot my face a lot.

  4. I recently switched from (a very thin layer of) NARS Sheer Glow to the newish L’Oreal Mat Magique. It lasts a long time and gives a decent amount of coverage 🙂

    • Thanks for sharing, Elaine! I find that NARS Sheer Glow breaks up and separates so much on my face when it’s hot out. Not pretty.

    • It really is the best! 🙂 I ordered through a forwarding service, if that helps! I’m based in Manila.

  5. Ugh, the Glossier skin tint sounds like the perfect product for our weather right now. I’m reaching for base that has spf in it (altho I still use sunscreen underneath) so that’s my Dr Jart Water Fuse BB cream and L’Oreal Lumi Magique.

    • ‘Tis, but no SPF. 😦 Do you wear the BB cream and Lumi Magique at the same time?!
