FOTD: MAKE Soft Focus Foundation and LMdB’s After Dark Kaleidoscope

It’s the last day of January and I’m kind of really excited to say that I haven’t purchased any new makeup! In fact, I’ve been enjoying some of the spoils of my US trip on the last quarter of last year. I remembered that I wanted to use the MAKE Soft Focus Foundation a lot in January and February, so I reached for it when I put on makeup on this particular day.

To be honest, I really think the color match is such a miss. I was matched by the Barneys SA to Cool 4 and although it blends in fairly well, it really looks so different on me in person. I’m sure the mood lighting of Barneys didn’t help her—I liked the match enough to buy it—but this is mostly what’s putting me off of using it more. I love the formula and the finish, etc. The color is just too pink for me. I am very particular with tones, and though I’ve deduced that my skin tone is neutral, I feel like it’s a little bit more warm-leaning. Not golden or yellow, but definitely not as pink as this.

I applied the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger on my under eye circles in an attempt to counter the BLANKET OF PINK that is my face. I’d probably mix the MAKE foundation with a yellower one and carry on into the next month.

For the colors on my face, I used all of the shades in my Le Métier de Beauté Kaleidoscope Kit in After Dark, which has two eyeshadows, a satin mauve blush, and a warm matte blush/bronzer. I swatched them all here. For lips, I used the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Descanso, which I have been mispronouncing and misspelling as “Decanso” ever since I got it. Woe is me. It’s much more pinky-peach in real life, by the way! It looks a bit nude here.

The bronzer looks stripey in the first two photos, but I think it looks quite nice here. Just me? The rest of the products will be listed down below. I did want to talk a bit about the brush I’ve been using for foundation application: the Sigma Tapered Kabuki – F86 Brush** which looks like this:

Sigma

One of the Ellana Minerals brushes I have actually resembles this one in shape, but the application of product is another matter. The Ellana brush I have works OK, but it wasn’t anything remarkable. I love the Sigma F86 brush because it really gives me a streak-free application when it comes to certain foundations that need a primer or a separate base underneath. I particularly like using it with my NARS Sheer Glow. I know this brush is kind of big, too, but it works really well, blending out concealer because of the tapered end.

  1. Gorgeous look! I really adore the LMDB kaleidoscopes, I really need to invest in one… maybe the Odyssey one? I’ve read a few blog reviews on the MAKE line and I’m really intrigued but I have such a hard time finding foundation shades that are light enough.. might have to do some research first!

    • Thank you, Miss Louise! 🙂 I’m not sure if MAKE makes light enough foundations, but I hope you find a match! I love LMdB Kaleidoscopes ❤

  2. I love how it looks on you though??? Looks so great! Anyway I wish you’d blog more about the brushes you use.. It’s been a while since I’ve seen an extensive post here on brushes alone. Will look forward to that! 😉
