New Old Face No. 1

Introducing New Old Face, in which I test out new products in conjunction with old favorites that I came back to. Here’s t first “New Old Face,” feat. NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadows and a MAC Lustre Lipstick that has been a longstanding favorite. (I seriously don’t know why people don’t talk about this shade more often.)

NEW BASES

I’ve got a new base and concealer in use here: the Happy Skin Cosmetics Zit Zapper Second Skin Cream and the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser. The Happy Skin cream only comes in one shade, which was too light for my liking when I first got it a a few months ago, and I have the Maybelline concealer in Medium.

Verdict: Not too sold on the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind, which makes me feel bad because a) I bought into the hype, and b) it’s not a cruelty-free product at that. Oh well. The Happy Skin Zit Zapper Cream is okay but it’s nothing great… I also found out that one of its ingredients is squalene/squalane, which I try to stay away from unless I know it’s ethically sourced. So far, no news about that, but I’ve asked them before if they tested on animals and they claim that they don’t.

NEW BASICS

Nature Republic Botanical Eye Primer, which is a LOVE. It’s cheap and works well, but a little slippy at first. Nature Republic By Flower Auto Eyebrow in 2, also a love. I wanted to try a brow product similar to the Anastasia Brow Wiz or Hourglass Arch Brow, at least in terms of its mechanism. I like this one a lot, which makes me want to try those even more.

NEW COLORS

Also new-ish are the NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadows, which I have in Cassiopeia (centre of the lid, so pretty) and Subra (used over top of a red eyeshadow on the inner and outer corners of the lid). I have posted about them previously, but they are still in the somewhat “new” camp for me, since I haven’t had them all that long. I love these, despite the price tag, and I’d get more if I didn’t already have so many eyeshadows. Lastly, MAKE Matte Eyeshadow in Khaki* is all up in my crease (haha) and lower lash line.

For cheeks, I used the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure.

OLD

My routine mainstays: K-Palette 1 Day Tattoo Liquid Eyeliner* as my eyeliner, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light to set my concealer, and the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light to warm up my face.

I used the 3CE Eyeshadow in Saturn* on the inner and outer 1/3 of the lid because I wanted to do a red-toned eye… but it was too red, so I ended up layering Subra over it. Then, I dabbed MAC Lustre Lipstick in Plumful all over the lips since the eye makeup is a bit too strong for Plumful‘s full opacity.

And there you have it! I like doing these things because I can talk a bit more candidly about new products without having to go into a super full detailed review and you can see them in action. 🙂 Let me know if you want a more in-depth review for any of the newer items, though!

That’s a great idea for a blog series. Looking forward to your future New Old Face posts! 🙂

  2. Now I’m regretting not getting the Nature Republic eye primer when I had the chance in NY. Do you know how it compares to UDPP? Thanks!

  3. Wow, Plumful is SO wearable when you sheer it out! I keep thinking I should look into it and keep forgetting about it! Going to put it on my to-do list for the week 🙂
