A few months ago, I wrote a post called “Statement Necklaces Confuse Me,” and frankly, they still do. Fortunately for me, I’ve shaken off my tendency to be attracted to them and have been switching around necklaces—one of my accessories of choice—to wear everyday.
Here are some of my favorites:
Sofie Lunøe — This is a random necklace I found at the ICA in Boston. Sofie Lunøe is a Danish goldsmith and I can’t, for the life of me, figure out how to get a hold of her stuff online. I was hooked on the stunning geometrical shape at play here that it didn’t even matter that I rarely wear silver jewelry. (I do now.)
Double Arrow Necklace by BRVTVS (Of a Kind) — Made in just a batch of 50, this necklace by BRVTVS in collaboration with Of a Kind is still a firm favorite. The pair of open ‘v’s juts out of the circle and sits on top of your collarbones, which adds a lovely effect.
Sapphire Lucky 3 Necklace by AILI (Of a Kind) — This is definitely the most expensive piece of jewelry I own—a 10-karat gold necklace with three tiny (1 mm) blue sapphires—but I had to have it as sapphire is my birthstone, and I had been wanting to get a “real” piece for myself for a while. As always, I waited for a sale—and the subtle prettiness this adds to my life is way worth it.
Andromeda Necklace by Nettie Kent (Of a Kind) — I love this unusual necklace! Inspired by shark’s teeth and Greek mythology, Nettie Kent made a strong piece that I still love wearing over and over.
Gold Bar — a simple necklace that I got from Etsy, if I feel like taking the quite plain route when it comes to neck accessories.
Slaughterhouse-five Necklace by Out of Print — I saw this at the NYPL and I had to have it. Technically, I really wanted the one from “The Bell Jar” (it said, i am i am i am) but I hadn’t read that yet. I love this one, though. So it goes.
Degas’ “La Petit Danseuse” — I acquired this from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, though it’s pretty easy to find online. It’s a pendant of Edgar Degas’ work, La Petit Danseuse, which is beautiful and was also kind of sketchy? In any case, I love wearing this, especially with shirts that have delicate collars.
A DINOSAUR — Found in Japan, in a store along Dotonbori street. It’s just a dinosaur!
So! These are mainly the necklaces I wear and I have the first four in heavy rotation. What’s your necklace life like?
