Nosy Beauty Vol. 30: Elaine

Ah! A new installment of Nosy Beauty. I am a failure at uploading, because Elaine actually sent this to me a few weeks ago but I hadn’t been able to fix it up in a post for you just yet. Anyway, please wish me luck as I try to wrangle up some future features and lightly tap the people I’ve already asked for updates. Ahem.

Elaine is my internet friend (though we met in line for The National when they played here!) and I first knew her through her blog, ourconsciousness, I think. She also started blogging about beauty and body acceptance here on Flabs Rule The World, which I love.

Hello! My name is Elaine and I’m a Digital Marketing Specialist so you’ll always see me on the Internet. When I’m not online – which rarely happens – I read or binge watch television shows. It’s only recently that I discovered my interest in makeup and blogging about it.

I’m a huge fan of Nosy Beauty and today I’m in it (achievement unlocked!) to share with you my makeup bag and what’s in it which I haven’t done yet so thank you Carina for this opportunity. 🙂

This huge makeup bag is from Happy Skin Cosmetics. I don’t always carry around a lot of makeup but when I do this bag houses everything I need from face primer to finishing powders to look polished and put together.

My face is not even remotely close to perfection but I make do with what I have. I use the Let’s Make It Last Makeup Primer from Ellana Mineral Cosmetics because my skin is very oily. For foundation, I have liquids and pressed powders but I am more partial to this Loose Mineral Foundation from Ellana. I don’t conceal marks or spots or pimples because I feel that when I do I exacerbate the darkness or redness or whatever the problem is.

For the eyes, it really depends on how lazy I am and how much time I have that day. My littlest palette is this one from Wet ‘n Wild. It has six eyeshadows you can mix and match for a variety of natural looks. Heck, you can even do smoky eyes with this one.

I’m a huge strong brow game fan, I’ve always been. Although my brows are naturally bushy, they’re quite uneven. I found my holy grail brow product recently – it’s the Anastasia DipBrow Pomade in Ebony. It’s a low maintenance product and it will probably last for a year.

The step I don’t skip is under eye concealing. I want to fool my bosses that I am well rested lol so I use the Bobbi Brown Peach Corrector and Creamy Concealer with the small pressed yellow powder for setting.

I also see to it that I’m wearing either mascara or eyeliner because I want my tiny eyes to look bigger and a bit defined. My mascara of choice is Fashion 21’s Double Up Mascara. For liquid eyeliner I have Happy Skin’s Eye Am Here To Stay Liquid Eyeliner and for tight lining I always go for Happy Skin’s Eye Am Here To Stay Gel Pencil Eyeliner (in either Perfect Black or Brown Chic, depending on how fierce I want my eyes to look, heh).

A little color in the cheeks is also good because it makes me look healthier. I either put on a light coral (Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion), a radiant peach/coral (NARS Orgasm), or a mauve-ish (Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure) blush. I sometimes skip contouring but I never skip the highlight, heh. For contouring and highlighting I use Kevyn Aucoin’s Sculpting Powder in Medium and The Celestial Powder.

To make sure my lips are smooth and hydrated I use the EOS lip balm. I have more lipstick tubes than I probably should but I keep at least two in my bag. These are what I have in my kit: Happy Skin’s Shut Up and Kiss Me Moisturizing Lippie in Summer Fling, Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 104, MAC Rebel, and a sample-sized Benetint.

Finishing powders aren’t my thing. However, I have three in case I feel the need to – Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders in Dim Light and Mood Light; and Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent. Recently I learned a thing from Wayne Goss and that made me use my translucent powder a lot more.

My makeup philosophy is pretty simple: if you want it, you can have at it. Sometimes I go crazy with it but most days I don’t have the energy to think of eyeshadow combinations and blend seamlessly so I skip some parts. Sometimes I skip makeup altogether. What’s important is you and how you feel that day.

That said, I always include self love in beauty. I figured I can’t enjoy all these beauty products if I’m preoccupied with imperfections, insecurities, and genetic stuff I want to get rid of. It’s not going to be fun unless I love what I already have.

  1. Lovely collection, Elaine! I’m the same way with my approach to makeup creativity. Sometimes I want to go all out, while there are also times when I’d use the same eyeshadow again and again for an entire month. Depands on the mood. 🙂

  2. I found Elaine’s blog when I was googling for stuff I like and her blog always comes up in the searches 😀

If you want it, you can have it! Amen to that 😀

  3. Wow that’s a lot of stuff for a makeup kit! OK I’m totally eyeing the KA Celestial Powder. I’ve finally upgraded my daily routine to include brows and I want to take it so much farther. I see my next few steps in eye shadow, liner and mascara so maybe I can put KA off for now 🙂

  4. Drooled over the blush, bronzers and highlighters. Haha. I love your makeup collection, Elaine! Glad that I have discovered your blog too.

More power to nosy beauty! 😀

  5. Those KA products …. stop tempting us, Elaine! Haha. Love the philosophy – if you want it, you can have it! :)) Simple but true. Keep blogging, Elaine!!
