Drugstore Finds: Pack on the Pigment with L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows

L'Oreal Infallible - Amber Rush, Golden Sage, Sultry Smoke - Pots

I’m very late to this party, but we don’t get these here and I got these months ago but never really reviewed them. I got whatever I could from a really old Multiply shop. Luckily, they had Amber Rush in stock, which is one of the colors I was dying to try.

These came out around the time that the Maybelline Color Tattoos came out, so a lot of people mistook them to be similar products. The Color Tattoos are cream eyeshadows, whereas the “Infallible Eyeshadow contains ultra concentrated colour pigments, for an intense colour finish and up to 24 hour long-lasting hold.”

Essentially, these are pigments that seem to be pressed (?) or just packed really tightly. I got, L-R: Amber Rush, Golden Sage, and Sultry Smoke. SS is the only matte color among the three.

All aligned together like that, I’m reminded of the NARS Trio, Delphes, although this is much, much more pigmented. On the whole, I really like the quality of these eyeshadows. You have to apply the least possible amount of pressure and you take away a lot of beautiful color. They’re also very easy to use. They blend really well and they go well with cream and powder eyeshadows.

When you add too many layers, though, the shimmery shades tend to make your eye look a little bit crepe-y, so watch out for that.

Here are some pictures where I’ve used them.

My firm favorite among the three is Amber Rush, but I am slowly loving Sultry Smoke, which I didn’t think I would like all that much. It’s a great neutral matte that can cut out too much eye-shine.

Unfortunately, L’Oreal is not cruelty-free, which has hindered me from buying any more of these Infallible Eyeshadows. They are one of the best eye products I own from the drugstore—better than some of my higher end makeup—but I can’t bring myself to buy any more shades, just because of their animal testing policy. Hopefully, L’Oreal is on the way to cutting out animal testing completely.

I purchased my Infallible Eyeshadows from a a now-defunct Multiply store.

  1. Sultry Smoke looks so good on you!! So goes Amber Rose, but it’s really different.

I always get visually attracted to warm colors, like Amber Rose, but they don’t work on my skin tone at all. It’s a strange paradigm. Lately I’ve been consciously making an effort to pick up cool-toned eyeshadow colors and although they look so boring and “blah…” to me in the pan or swatched, they really work once applied! Bizarre.

    • I have to be picky about warm tones, too! And certain cool colors, like silver. It’s so weird and it’s so funny how it almost feels like you begrudgingly buy something that looks good to you because another, unflattering shade appeals more to you in the pan!

What colors do look good on you Olga, did you try any of these shadows? I think we have the same coloring and I’m not sure about Amber Rose either.

  2. I have not purchased this. I am more of a lipstick girl than an eyeshadow girl, but I wanted to experiment more because I got some e/s palettes just waiting for me. Hihi

    • That’s great! I LOVE EYESHADOW. Haha I’m surprised because I was under the impression that makeup addiction began with lipsticks haha!

  3. I looove the Infallible line! I’m scared of pigments so this is the closest I can get to it. Haha! Amber Rush looks like a lovely color and really suits you!

  4. I wish I could tell you how long I’ve wanted Amber Rush. It’s not out in Bahrain or the UK, and I die a little inside everytime I remember I don’t own it.

    • Hugs! I think I can try to get it to you over there. The seller I frequent has it in stock, still. It’s about $5.
