In the few odd years that I’ve been buying makeup, there have been a few stand-outs. Today’s installment for Lipstick Week is going to be about my Most Loved Lipsticks. I’ve found new favorites here and there, but these are the ones that I’ve used the most.
They’re probably most-used also because they’re a bit older than some of my other purchases, but I thought I’d show you which colors I wore a lot before I drowned in the Sea of Impulse Buying.
I’ll start with a Chanel Rouge Coco in Perlé. I talked about this in my first Lipstick Week installment, Chanel Lipsticks.
It was my first high-end lipstick purchase, and I actually bought it off my friend, Jin, who wasn’t feeling the color, so it wasn’t until much later that I swatched like a crazy woman to make a purchase. This was pretty much handed to me and it’s weird because I wouldn’t have picked it out for myself, but I love it a lot.
As you can see, it’s a pretty easy color to wear. It’s kind of a warm, dusty rose with warm brown undertones, and a decent amount of shimmer that draws attention to your lips. Rouge Coco is one of my favorite Chanel formulas, second only to their matte range, the Rouge Allure Velvet.
It’s supposed to be hydrating and creamy, but some people have experienced dryness with it. I’ve personally had no problems with it drying out my lips, but as you can see, it does nothing for my lip lines. I don’t personally mind that, though I though I would mention it.
Next up is a NARS Sheer Lipstick in Vendanges, which came out in the summer of 2012, if I’m not mistaken. I think it’s a permanent color, though. Vendanges is a sheer grape, and is a color I would never have picked out for myself.
I remember purchasing this at the time that I started reading through Temptalia and getting into the world of beauty blogging. I backread so many pages and I listed out stuff I wanted to try at a beauty counter and this was one of the things I listed down. I looked at the tube, said “Pass!” but I couldn’t let go of it, so I tried it on myself and ended up getting it.
I completely fell in love with this color when I was traveling, though. For a month, I only had this, MAC’s Jubilee, Chanel’s La Distinguée, and a lipstick I picked up halfway through from Kiko at my disposal. I wore this the most. 🙂 I wasn’t into eye makeup yet, so I totally felt like this added that pop of color to my face without too much effort.
NARS lipsticks also have my favorite scent. I tried to Google it to see what exactly it was, but LOL so many people apparently hate it! I think it’s a cross between lemony fresh and flowery. I don’t know. All I know is that I like this smell the best.
As I mentioned before, I have a really, really hard time going to a MAC counter and picking colors. It’s really a problem of too many options and while some people like that, it practically scares me into oblivion.
Anyway, I was looking at nudes (lol) and this one looked the best on me, in my opinion. I personally don’t like the concealer lips look, but some people can pull it off. I think it’s really a matter of finding the right kind of nude that goes with your skin tone, and for me, that was Jubilee.
The problem was, it was always out of stock! Sarie’s mom, Tita Gidget, went to the States though and picked up a tube for me, so I thought that was really thoughtful and sweet. This is another effortless shade of lipstick that goes with practically anything, so I think that’s a plus, too.
Last but not the least, I have here a Revlon Lip Butter, which isn’t technically a lipstick, but it very well could be because of its pigmentation. It’s one of the first two I got and it remains my favorite.
I honestly think this jump-started my love for plummy lip colors. I think it’s a really good wash of color, and is perfect for everyday use, especially since it’s fairly moisturizing and it’s easy to reapply. I find that some lipstick formulas are a pain to reapply, but not so with this! It’s really pretty much like putting on Chapstick again in the middle of the day. Very effortless.
I absolutely love Sugar Plum, and this would have been a definite repurchase if Revlon suddenly decide to go cruelty-free again. Right now, I still have the remaining product in my tube to last me a few more uses, so I’m not too torn about it.
Speaking of remaining product, I thought it would be fun to show you how much product I have left in each. I’ve twisted them all the way up, of course:
Chanel Rouge Coco in Perlé
I sadly accidentally closed a cap on this one and smooshed a bit of the tip.
NARS Sheer Lipstick in Vendanges
Sigh, see how much love this one got?
MAC Lustre Lipstick in Jubilee
I honestly think more people should try Jubilee! 🙂 I don’t hear a lot about it, though I do think it would suit a lot of medium to dark skintones who are looking for a good nude.
