Once upon a time, I splurged and bought three lip products from Guerlain in one fell swoop. Rustan’s was on a one-day only 30% off sale and I knew I had to just jump at the chance. And so I came home with a Le Rouge G de Guerlain, a Terracotta gloss, and a Rouge G L’Extrait, which I reviewed here.
After testing all of these products out, my only regret is that I didn’t grab more stuff. I know that sounds excessive, but these are mighty expensive (due to a price markup) and getting them on sale is a wondrous thing.
The Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Lipstick Compact is:
A jewel lipstick compact with a white-gold shimmer designed by Lorenz Bäumer, the young and talented jeweler in Place Vendôme. A horizontal design with feminine curves that houses a secret: a mirror automatically appears when the compact is opened. The lipstick has a purely elegant, contemporary design and closes magnetically. This exceptional object boasts a comprehensive, premium formula containing a star ingredient: ruby powder, which acts as an optical whitener to bring out the color and shine of the shades. The blend of natural active ingredients (Tiger Grass, wild mango butter, Gugul resin used in Ayurvedic medicine) completes the formula to plump up, smooth and bring moisture and softness to your lips.
As you can see, the casing is similar to the Rouge G L’Extraits, but instead of pulling out the wand from mirrored end, you have the “tube” part of the lipstick instead. These are also quite hefty and it has a magnetic closure.
Gemma is described as a rosy mauve, though I do believe that it leans more pink than mauve. It has a bit of gold shimmer that introduces a pretty sheen to your lips. It has potential to be an MLBB shade, but it goes on pretty opaquely, and I don’t know, I don’t think there is anyone who has natural lips this pink. Pretty, though. I mean, it’s not ostentatious or too “out there,” but it’s certainly not going to fool anyone into thinking you have no makeup on.
Gemma swatch + some writing on my hand.
Longevity is decent, texture is phenomenal. It goes on smoothly and creamily and appears true-to-color in just one to two swipes. It does not highlight dryness or settle into cracks. No feathering here, either. The signature scent of Guerlain cosmetics (violets!) is a little bit overpowering upon application but it goes away almost immediately.
It’s non-drying, fairly hydrating (though more of a Maintainer of Hydration), and tastes faintly of violets and/or perfume. I can’t really tell, but I don’t really care because I don’t eat my lipstick. Here it is on my lips:
Anyway, like I said, I wish I bought more shades, although I do like Gemma, because it’s one of the first light and pinky ones that I have. Although most people would describe it as a medium-pink, it translates into a fairly light (though not pale) one against my skintone. I wish I had gotten more because the formula is amazing.
On my face: Laura Mercier’s Artist’s Palette for Eyes (Vanilla Nuts & Plum Smoke), Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear Bronzer (Tan), Le Rouge G de Guerlain Jewel Compact Lipstick (Gemma).
VERDICT: Yet another beautiful lipstick from Guerlain. Pretty pink that’s easy to wear with a fantastic formula.
Will I repurchase? Not this shade, since I don’t think I will be using it all that much anyway, but I would like some of the other shades.
How much? $48 or Php 2,500 for 0.14oz. Bought on sale for Php 1,750.
Where to buy in Manila? Guerlain counters in Rustan’s department stores.
